Shoe covers for bad weather

While shoes and boots are usuall designed to be worn outside, it is often easier to avoid getting them dirty if possible. This can be true if you are going to work or on a visit to an industrial or building site. In this situation the best option is to use shoe covers which minimise or totally avoid the shoes getting soiled. There are a number of different types of shoe covers.

Disposable anti-skid shoe covers

The most common is shoe covers for bad weather. These are usually light weight and disposable, which means that when you have finished with them you don't have to worry about cleaning them or washing them. Disposable anti-skid shoe covers are also useful in this situation, as the bad weather can include ice and mud. In some circumstances it may be a requirement for an employer to provide shoe covers for bad weather in the form of disposable anti-skid shoe covers as a health and safety issue. Employees can claim for damage to their shoes where they have not been provided with specialist clothing.

Nondisposable shoe covers

Where you need to use shoe covers frequently, or where the round or floor is rough, you may want to consider using nondisposable shoe covers. These are much tougher than disposable shoe covers for bad weather, and can be re-used and cleaned. It is cheaper and more environmentally to use nondisposable shoe covers.

Slip resistant shoe covers

These can be used as shoe covers for bad weather, but also prevent the user from slipping where there is ice or frost. Slip resistant shoe covers are important where they are given to employees or to the elderly to prevent accidents.

Polyethylene shoe covers

Where they need to be completely waterproof, it is common practise to use polyethylene shoe covers. This stops moisture entering the shoe, and hence prevents the users feet from getting cold. A problem can arise through prolonged use where moisture is trapped inside the shoe, so care should be taken when considering polyethylene shoe covers.

Custom shoe covers

Sometimes none of the available shoe covers suit a particular use. This can occure where conditions are excessively hot, cold, or rough. In this case, it may be best to have custom shoe covers made. They will meet your requirements exactly and will give less problems than other partially suitable options. On problem is that custom shoe covers are usually more expensive to buy, but they are worth it.

You may want to buy shoe covers for bad weather or disposable anti-skid shoe covers. Other options may be nondisposable shoe covers and slip resistant shoe covers. For tough situations there are polyethylene shoe covers and custom shoe covers. Whatever your situation, one thing you can be sure of is that there are shoe covers to meet your needs.
